Commandos vs. Riverdale
The Commandos baseball team picked up their second win of the season Monday night against a scrappy Riverdale team. Greg Leger got the starting nod at pitcher opening the game with three strikes outs. Leger would go on to pick up the win and hold Riverdale to 2 runs. The Commandos offensive helped him out by piling up 13 runs in five innings giving the Commandos a 13-2 victory.

Commandos vs. Knights!!
In the second home game of the year, your Commandos took on another homeschool team, the SWLA Knights. In what ended up being a bittersweet homecoming of sorts, the Commandos faced an old football teammate - Grant Wild. Grant's Brother Ethan was also on hand as a spectator.
The Commandos and Knights traded leads early in the game but then the Knights jumped out ahead. The Commandos rally fell just as the Knights stole one at Heymann park by a score of 11-10.

Ambrose Stearns lets Grant know that once the game starts, the gloves come off.

AHSA Home Opener
After months of sweat, over 800 man hours of labor and countless of hours of practice with AHSA coaches and years before in numerous baseball leagues, the AHSA Commandos fielded a baseball team for very first time on its home field on March 22, 2010. The opponent was a worthy one in the Baton Rouge CHEF Patriots. Thought by many to be one of the best, if not the best team in the league, the Patriots handed the Commandos their first loss on their home field by a score of 14-4.
Of course everone would have liked to see a 'W,' the Commandos played well, threw strikes and showed some good offense.

Above (top picture), Spanky Arsement, who officiated the game looks for the North to take the field. He had the help of an excellent media crew and was able to reverse a crucial call that initially ruled the above Southern ball carrier down by contact. Replay evidence clearly shows that the ball was loose prior to the player being down. The North recovered the ball and went on to score.
Former all state Commando, Ethan Wild, led his team to early score. Things looked grim for the North as the South seemed to move the ball at will.
However, the North got help in all aspects of the game from all sorts of unlikely suspects like basketball standout and football newcomer Andrew Duhon (below) who rose to the occasion.
Even when the South thought things were going there way, there was a Northern defender to break things up.
The North had a lot to cheer about as they went on to beat the South 28-27.
While the South played well at times under the direction of the "Bird Man," they could not keep things together for an entire four quarters. Some have speculated that after the "Bird Man" had his face planted by a Northern defender he was not the same. The only thing his team mates could do was look on in disbelief as the North raised their flag victoriously.

AHSA players in the new.
This week the national homeschool basketball tournament was held in Springfield Missouri. Commandos football players Ethan Wild, Grant Wild and Ambrose Stearns made the trip. Ethan and Ambrose played unattached and went to the final game in their division and came home with runner up honors. Ethan took home All Tournament honors. Grant played with the SWLA Knights coached by AHSA football stat guru Bill Wild. Congratulations to all our former Commandos.

It is great to see that sports opportunities in the homeschool community throughout the country are increasing every year. Not only that, but the level of competition is on par with "mainstream" prep sports programs.

Commandos heartbreak in Houma.
After scoring 25 runs in their opener and first ever baseball game that kept the team up to the wee hours of the morning, your Commandos got up before daylight to travel to Houma for a double header. While putting up a valiant effort and decent offensive numbers, the Commandos dropped two tough ones to a hard hitting, veteran Covenant Christian team 14-4 and 16-3 both in 5 innings.
Head Coach, Murray Atkins said of the season so far, "Our boys did really well as a team coming together for the first time and playing as a team." When speaking about his team's performance on Saturday he said that his team showed no lack of skill but made some mistakes that come from not having played together for more than a couple of games and the Covenant Christian played like they've been together for three years.
AHSA director and assistant baseball coach, Spanky Arsement, said "Covenant Christian had some great hitters and overpowered us at the plate. They also had a very deep pitching staff."
All in all, the Commandos came out of the opening week 1-2 and scored 32 runs in 17 innings of play. Not bad for a first year team. It looks like the team has a lot of talent and with some more experience everyone is looking forward to a great season.

AHSA Baseball
The first ever AHSA Commandos baseball game was played on March 19, 2010 against a high scoring, exciting Highland Baptist team. The Commandos prevailed 24-15 for their first ever baseball win and giving them a perfect 1-0 record! Good job Commandos.
