Commandos Win!!!!!!!!!

Last night the AHSA faithful were treated to nine innings of heartstopping action in the first playoff appearance in Commandos baseball history.

Your Commandos faced LCA, Louisiana Christian Academy, in a crosstown rivalry. LCA had pulled off a win in the one and only meeting earlier this year. Things looked bleak for the Commandos early on as LCA jumped out to a 5-0 lead and it looked like the experience of LCA was paying dividends.

The Commandos had a scoring rally and closed within 3 runs but left runners on base and did not capitalize on all the opportunities they had late in the game. Going into the final inning, with strong defensive efforts, the Commandos held LCA and again with a flurry of hits the Commandos roared back to tie the game and force extra innings.

In the eighth inning the Knights took the lead again by manufacturing a run. The AHSA answered with a run of their own but could not close out the game. Spencer Duhon was thrown out trying to steal third base and Dylan Fontenot got thrown out at second base after hitting the ball to the fence. There was a collective gasp as Carter Berry landed a shot over the left field fence but went just foul.

The ninth inning brought more heroics as the Commandos held LCA scoreless with a runner on third base for most of the top of the inning. With Luke Arsement leading off for the Commandos and getting on base by being nailed by a pitch, another opportunity faded as he was picked off at second base. With one out and no base runners, the Commandos went to work again. Getting a runner on third then loading the bases with two outs, Ambrose Stearns got up to bat with the bases loaded. Carter Berry got the LCA catcher to force the ball to third and scored on an errant throw.

Commandos win their first ever baseball playoff game by a score of 7-6 in a thriller at Heymann park.

Congratulations to all the players and coaches for sticking this one out and closing strong. We expect photos to be posted later this week so check back soon.
